One of the most common treatments a Dentist in Daytona Beach, FL may need to use to treat their patients is dental implants. Dental implants are one of the main ways that dentists today are able to replace a patient’s lost teeth with natural looking teeth without some of the issues that prior types of treatments could cause.
Dental implants can be the best choice because not only do they look natural, but they feel natural in the patient’s mouth as well. This can make them much more comfortable and help in eliminating some of the problems that patients had in becoming accustomed to other types of replacement teeth, such as dentures or bridges. Implants feel more like a patient’s own teeth and this means that they will be able to speak, smile or eat in much the same way they did before treatment.
Implants are also beneficial because they do not move around. Dentures could cause a great deal of pain and discomfort because they moved in the mouth. This could create sores and other conditions on a patient’s gums and mouth. Implants are fixed, so that the dental appliances attached to them cannot move. This can also be helpful in eliminating the self-conscious feelings many had when speaking or eating because the person was fearful their dentures might slip or fall out.
Endosteal dental implants involve the dentist surgically placing a rod made of titanium or another type of biocompatible material into the patient’s jawbone. The rod is left in place for a period of months so that the rod and bone can fuse together in a process referred to as osseointegration. Once this is achieved, the dentist will be able to attach dental appliances, such as dentures, crowns or bridges to the rods. This allows the patient to have replacement teeth that closely resemble the look and feel of their natural teeth.
